I am new to commuting and today will be my first ride home in the rain. I have NO weatherproof clothing (as I am waiting for Thursday -Aldi).

I am in London and my commute is 15 miles. Would people recommend cycling with just a t-shirt and shorts or should I just leave it today?

It looks pretty set in but could have passed or eased off by hometime. If the sky's as grey as it is now I wouldn't personally ride without lights but many do. As for gettting wet, once you're wet you can't get wetter so I just go for it. I'm as soaked as I'm going to be before I've even unlocked my bike.

wet isn't the issue,

But there will be spray and fogged windscreens and if its as dark where you are as it is in White City right now....you WILL need lights.

Wet can be an issue when it's cold, of course: you'll get colder quicker if you're wet. Other than that, it's not a real hassle and never as bad actually being out in it as you think it's going to be.

As others have said, your problem today is likely to be the gloominess outside, spray and all that, making you less visible to other traffic.

Ha ha. But we had a summer down here - ner ner!!

Today will be the first day since June that I've got wet on a commute: it's chucked it down just before I left or just after I arrived a few times, but not actually on me for some time now.

Edit: well, a summer of sorts. It's been quite dry, anyhow. Mumble.

I got well and truly drenched coming home tonight. It was actually very refreshing as it's only the 5th wet ride I've had since May 08! I've popped my baggy shorts and short-sleeved top in the tumble dryer ready for the morning....

Getting wet on the way home isn't as bad as getting wet on the way into work - you know that you can get changed, dry, warm even take a shower once home.
