I got the hub gears working on my scabby Halfords folder today  . I got her just before xmas and replaced the cable but haven't had a chance to test it properly til this weekend. She just needed a replacement cable, a bit of flushing with WD40 and some new oil. She's going to be my shopping and hire car pickup bike.

Took her round the block a few times - she's a long way from a precision performance machine but surprisingly fun to ride short distances. I had a huge grin.

She cost £35 plus a new inner tube and gear cable. It was supposed to be £40 but I got £5 discount for the flat tyre. You know you are buying a classy bike when the inner tubes are 25% of the value.

Anyone else got love for crap bikes?

Wow! I can remember legions of them on the road when I used to cycle to school. I don't suppose school-age girls do the cycling thing now in case they start to sweat!

I have fond memories of an old hand painted ten speed that I brought through a newspaper add for forty five quid in he mid eighties. For two years it was my ride to work and my club bike, I did many all day touring club rides on it. Then sold it for only a little less than I paid for it.

I definitely do have a love of crap bikes. Just look in my garage:thumbsup:

I like that bike. Similar design to my R20. Very practical. Fun to ride so long as the road is well surfaced. If you do fold it, be careful to not get the pedal caught in the spokes on the front wheel...
