No more commuting for me for a few weeks after tuesday as I'm having the plate removed from my clavicle.
I hope it rains bucket loads in those few weeks :P so that when I come back it's all nice and clear

When I came off my bike two summers ago, I was in hospital for 4 days. I have never felt boredom like it! Every day after my op I was asking the nurses and doctors if I could go home. The weather was really sunny too with very low wind.
Even when I was released, I had to use crutches as I had a substantial bandage on my knee. The doctor said that I would need to keep the stitches in for about 6 weeks but I manages to get him down to 4. After the stitches were out, I was told not to cycle again for another 2 weeks. But me and my dad came to an arrangement and it ended up being 1 weeks and 3 days.

The moral of the story is that doctors add extra time to healing times just to be certain that everything is fixed. However, with a little bit of arm twisting they normally come down to the limit that they try to avoid.

Gaz, didn't realise you fractured your clavicle. Guess it was a while ago?

How was / is your recovery? I broke mine about 5 weeks ago, and I just know when I go back to the docs in a fortnight they're going to tell me they need to operate as the bone still hasn't fused. Interested in how your operation went, and recovery timescales.

Cheers

About three weeks ago I made the mistake of riding my bike 36 hours after a procedure on my brain! Turned out not to be a good idea, sore head or what! Mrs AF had gone to work, and I sneaked out. She went mental when she got home and I was grounded.

many years ago I fell off a ladder and broke my heel, a week later my Mrs went shopping and when she got back she couldn't find me, I was out in the shed on the turbo, a few weeks later I was that bored being laid up I took to strapping my crutches to the toptube of my bike and going out with a local touring group.

It was 2011, fractured badly into 3 pieces and they left it for 8 days before they operated, should have really been operated on as soon as I came into hospital.

So my recovery was crap, took me 2 months before I was even back at work and another month till I was back on the bike.
Biggest issues for me was sleeping, could only lie on my back and could only sleep for around 6 hours. Getting out of bed, a chair etc.. was almost impossible by my self for a few weeks.

I had some good physio and I got full use of my arm back, I play a badminton every now (used to play competitively for uni) and it doesn't give me any issues. The only problem I do have now is when i'm sleeping, the titanium doesn't flex but the bone does, so if i lie on that side then it really hurts in the morning.

Hope the procedure goes well for you Gaz, and that it rains and rains.
You're far enough away for me to still have good weather if it does:thumbsup:

Here's to a speedy recovery Gaz! You'll be back in no time. If you go to a gym, the recumbent machines are great for keeping the legs ticking over as they require no upper body movement (I used them when my shoulder was out of comission).

Also, has anyone mentioned another curry night? I'd be up for it if others are.

No gaz will realise that he can cycle a recumbent and will then start riding a bent on the roads. Another good one lost to the dark arts. Real men do it sitting up

According the current weather forecast the warmth is about to disappear and the cold is on it's way back, maybe even snow.
Obviously taken with a large pinch of salt as the forecasters have been wrong in the past, occasionally:tongue:
