dyslexia is nothing, just wait until you develop amnesia..

Gromit knows she has dyslexia, I expect this is to allow the institution to assess the level. And being a mature student, I expect she's heard every lame joke about it there is. Especially jokes that mostly depend on mistakes nothing like those someone dyslexic would make.

Arch you take things way too seriously. I was acknowledging the humour in it hence the 2 laughing smilies

When i was a university i found the support they gave me as a disabled student was piss poor. I'm dyslexic and i need extra help learning sometimes, what did they offer me? some free hardware including a laptop, dictaphone and a printer. i didn't need any of those things.

Well, pardon me for hoping my good friend wasn't pissed off with the level of humour on this thread.

Arch, FWIW I'm in agreement.
It's not the humour I find unpleasant, it's that somebody has shared something important that is an issue to them, maybe awkward or embarrasing and instead of being supportive, it's become an open a piss-take on the subject instead.
I'd hoped we were better than that...

I am sure that no one, including you, meant any offence; but I think sometime people need to think twice before they start making jokes like this.

It ought to have been clear from the OP that Gromit wasn't in a particularly humorous mood.

Sorry Gromit. No offence intended by my very weak "joke". Hope all went well and that the test has helped in some way (establishing a baseline / level of support required?).

Its why I haven't posted anything on the thread since yesterday. You can make fun of people with a learning disability all you like, would you do the same to person who has a physical one?

Its extremely frustrating to have a condition that wasn't diagnosed until I was in my mid twenties. Its been an extremely hard and frustrating battle, leading to depression thinking that I'm stupid because I can't do some of the stuff that you normal people can do.

I think people should always think twice before making fun of people with some sort of condition, its how bullying starts.

Perhaps a forum populated by a generous proportion of irreverant posters is not the best place to bare one's soul and expect totally respectful and sensitive responses. I'm not being unsympathetic but this forum is the last place that I'd use to seek solace and/or sympathy - belly laughs yes, amusement yes, touchy feely stuff nope.

I happily accepted the free laptop and printer, but the Dictaphone was a waste of time, humm must become a student again sometime... :stop:

I think the contrary, this place vhas shown itself to be hugely supportive of peoples problems. Check out threads on say Depression, bereavements (including pets), work and family issues etc. There's a lot of human kindness here.

I think that because Gromit didn't answer the genuine early responses the thread degenerated. It is CC after all.

Agree.

And well done to Gromit for feeling able to post in the first place. It sounds like you went through quite an ordeal.

Hi Gromit - obviously if you don't want to answer this then ignore it.

I was wondering who was doing the test and if so how will they use the results to make your life better.

If they can't, it seems a lot of stress for you for nothing.

Even if you can't answer, I hope you get something positive out of it :stop:
