I can't add anything to the sentiments expressed already by all the previous posts.

my orginal sympathies were deleted as I responded to Abitary in the same post .....

You did the right thing for your dog. Don't let it put you off getting another one though. If you are capable of making hard choices like that in order to do the best thing for your dog, then should give another dog a brilliant life as you clearly did for your last one.

Many thanks all.

I showed this thread to my Wife last night who tearfully commented that "there were a lot of lovely people on here."

Time for me to try and move on now and, as said, to celebrate the good times we had with him.

It's going to take a while though.....

Many thanks again for all the support.

So, he was destroyed at 18:10 today.

No he wasn't.

You gave him the last gift of love. You were there when he needed you most.

I know how it feels but it will get better. Yeah yeah, heard everyone say that to me and thought 'rubbish, blah blah' but it does.

RIP and massive kisses and love for Bob.

Someone said to me, over a human bereavement: "No, you never 'get over it', but you eventually 'come to terms with it'. and I reckon it's the same for a beloved animal.

As people have said, you did the best for him, and in the end, you did better for him than you'd be allowed to do for a human.

Remember the best times.
