A hedgehog has moved into the hedgehog house I acquired a year ago!

Congratulations!

You've had better luck than I have with my bumble bee box. The ungrateful sods are still managing to resist it's allure.

Great news! I left the back door open one night last summer and woke up in the wee hours to discover a hedgehog in my bedroom. Dog was bemused but quite happy with the intrusion.

Thanks TMN. Until today, I never knew that hedgehog houses existed, but a brief scratch of YouTube and Google threw up all kinds of wonderful designs as well some funny footage of domesticated pet hedgehogs scuttling about at high speed. Good stuff.

They are great, aren't they? Very funny, unintentionally - like many animals. When they run they can really shift, kind of on tiptoes. And they make the most gruesome scary noises when they're rootling about - very unsettling the first time you hear it and you don't know what it is. I feel very honoured to be hosting one.
The tiptoe thing is really funny - they sort of draw themselves up, pause for a second and then leg it! Apparently their mating calls are blood-curdling, though am not sure I've ever heard any hoggy noises first hand.

My parents had a semi-tame one (Wobbly), which was rescued as a teeny baby and released when put on enough weight. He used to bring his lady friend and babies back to visit us
