... in looking straight at me for 5 seconds & just when I get to the point of having to brake relativly hard to stop going into the side of you pull out at walking pace with you finger in the air. Though the look on the guys face as I pushed my weight forward, lifting the rear wheel & it swing out was rather priceless, so did the guy in the car behind me who was pissing him self laughing.

......perfect for a well choreographed slam into the side, roll on the floor wailing.....

I'm reliably informed by a certain Amazon that a recumbent is perfect for this sort of situation. Brake slightly less hard and make a door/crank/pedal interface. Apparently done for real.

I wouldn't do such a thing of course, but I have to chuckle at the idea!!

I wouldn't make any contact, if anything goes wrong you're the one that'll get hurt but seeing a guy with the rear wheel about 9" to 12" off the ground coming towards you sideways gets the message across. Of course I knew I had enough space to stop by this point.

I've done the same a few times but always finish the manoeuvre off by coming down close enough to the car that i can hit the window with my forearm while still holding the bars. It's that last bit of contact that really shocks them into realising how close they came to injuring you ;)

on my old hybrid I deliberately ran into the door of a car that did that, the centre of the door is weak ans gives way quite nicely if you it right

I wish I was on the fixie because its sports contacts makes tyre smoke when dragging sideways at 25+mph, from previous experience tyre smoke scares the bejeebers out out motorists in general (though does write off tyres in double quick time). The problem was this guy was moving so I didn't want to make any contact, a prod of the loud peddle & I could have ended up in A&E or worse. I have on occasions tapped on the window or door with an arm/knee fully mounted on the bike but this time I decided just to scare him with a potential impact.

I would suggest that the fact that he had a "finger in the air" proves that he really didnt give a shat what you thought (rear wheel up or not) and was probably hoping you would make contact so that he could have a row

Think you did the best thing by avoiding him, he was clearly a nutter and fancied a little boxing practice first thing.

Jonny, you should have seen his face, he was either filling his trousers or a great actor. It certainly looked like he was s**ting him self as I came close to his car, a rather nice 1 series beemer actually.
