I went to download AVG for the new laptop, but it wouldn't load as there was a conflicting program,kasperspy. I have been offered a free trial for that but I have never heard of it. Is it any good or will it be just as good sticking with the free AVG?

Just uninstall Kaspersky if you dont want to use it if you have a problem removing it go here -> CLICK ME and download the Kapsersky Removal Tool.

Yes I use Kaspersky by the way and it is very good but dont buy it from them, if you get a copy of Kaspersky 2011 cheap off amazon or somewhere the code works to activate the 2012 trial version to a full version

Never heard of Kasperspy, but avg is good, Iv used the free version for years and not had a problem.

Me again, mind, I think kasperspy would be a better name for it

Can recommend Kaspersky only about £ 20.00 a year), found it stops more advare than AVG free version.

If it is only Kaspersky anti-virus then ideally you need another layer of protection to deal with malware and other internet borne nasties. MalwareBytes or similar will help do the job. If you are talking about Kaspersky Internet Security then it should cover most things you need protecting from.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials which pretty well does all Kaspersky Internet Security does but is completely free.

Too be honest I have used both the Internet Security and the Antivirus and they are much of a muchness but I also use Malwarebytes the paid version that has active protection and that is excellent at catching nastys that try to load on the fly when you goto an infected website.

I wont get into an argument about free vs paid for protection as that is for the individual to decide, but I will say that part of my job is sorting out infected PC's and I find Kaspersky with Malwarebytes will get rid of most things where as when the infected PC's come in they usually have some kind of free antivirus on them already which doesnt say a lot for the effectiveness of those programs. But I will also say that these tools are only any good if the person knows how to use them when they do find an infection most people havent got a clue how to use then properly.

I tried Kaspersky several years ago on the recommendation of an IT friend. It was very resource hungry and slowed the machine to a crawl.

Personally I'd put Kaspersky in the same group as Norton and McAfee - the avoid at all costs group. AVG which has been excellent for years has become increasingly resource hungry and I would now avoid as well, which is a shame as I always liked it.

We have recently upgraded our office machines and have them running Windows 7 which comes with MSE. So far it has proved excellent and completely unobtrusive - AVG used to be.

+1 for MSE, and FWIW I've been advised that Google Chrome is the safest Internet browser so I've also switched to using that

One our IT guys told me about the Chrome thing. Apparently someone had carried out a hacking test on all the main internet browsers, and while they did hack Chrome it was the hardest one.
