Keeping feet dry/warm

First really wet commute in this morning, I don't mind getting wet on way home as its easy to dry stuff overnight, but now I'm going home with wet shoes .

How do you keep your feet dry as I noticed in other threads that overshoes are useless?!

2 methods.

1) Good, old fashioned overshoes.

2) My old MTB shoes, before they get too knackered I buy a new pair. I then take the old pair and rub sllicone sealant into the mesh to waterproof them, use them as my bad weather MTB shoes.

It wasn't that cold today so I went for the open sandal/shoe things I wear on the beach - they dry quickly so I've just left them near the heater at work. That won't work when it's colder though as you can't wear socks with them!

EDIT - also won't work if you have SPD pedals obviously - I use normal pedals with toe clips so I get more shoe choices.

A front mudguard coupled with some waterproof over shoes this will keep most of the rain out, but if its torrential the rain from your legs will run down into your shoes :/

They don't do much for the asthetics of the bike - espically when made out of an old cider bottle - but a generously sized mudflap works wonders.

Just ordered DHB's extreme weather overshoes (should get me through winter) and mudguards (about time I sorted these out!).

Fingers crossed the rain doesn't stop just as they arrive

I have a very similar pair, I think they're Endura.

Coupled with a decent pair of merino socks, they will keep you dry and toasty. Can be a bit of a pain to put on though.

Good overshoes were an absolute revelation, one of the best buys I ever made for commuting. BBB Hardwear BWS04, nice thick neoprene, went all the way through last winter almost daily use and they still look like new. OK in the heaviest downpours rain still got in but the feet stayed warm.

Thank you for buying some new ones. The rain will surely stop in Leeds.

If it's wet but not too cold, I use SPD sandals, socks in the pocket and shoes at work.
"Too cold" is surprisingly cold - I wore sandals & bare feet at some point in every month last year. Certainly if you can ride without gloves, sandals & bare feet are OK.

You can wear sealskins style waterproof socks, but they don't dry out too quickly so you would probably need a second pair for the return journey.

I have waterproof overshoes, for putting over my cycle shoes, to keep the feet dry (ish). I also stock up on those charcoal and iron filing foot warmer pouches, which you can get from most Halfords stores / Tesco at home places / internet. Those things together make for warm dry tootsies.

+1 for the Sealskinz. Not only are they great for keeping water out (and in sometimes), they are great for cold weather riding. Keeping the toes all toasty.

I have Northwave GTX boots, which are great for cold/dry conditions, but in the rain water runs down your legs and into the boots, from where it can't escape because of the goretex lining.
+1 for neoprene overshoes.
