+1 for doing the west side of Thirlmere

If you don't actually need/want to go back into Keswick, but just to get back to your start point, try this:

the short stretch along the A66 when you are almost back to Troutbeck has a cyclepath on the footpath - very few peds to get in the way!

Enjoy !
If you are pootling around the area north of the A66 and east of Keswick, pop into the Cycle Cafe in Greystoke. Tea and nice cakes, plus track pump etc if you need it. They're not open every day, though...*

*Edit: having actually read the link - they ARE open every day if you arrive by bike.
Not if you arrive by car/on foot.

The Greystoke cycle café looks very inviting I will definitely be calling in..May incorporate this into a ride on Monday:cuppa:..Can't see me riding very much on Sunday, My legs will be rebelling after riding up Kirkstone Pass Saturday:wacko:

I think there's a newish cycle path from Ambleside to Coniston which you might be able to include in your travels.

Decent, high-end bike shop in Ambleside - Biketreks.

The website includes a route advice section.

I'd post a link, but the site doesn't want to open for me at the minute - a google of the obvious will get you there.
