Hi all
I have a hybrid with 700c wheels. I mainly ride on paved surfaces but on a run down a cycle track last week got 2 punctures.
I have been advised to upgrade to kevlar reinforced tyres. Any recommendations?
Cheers

I use Marathon Plus tyres. Regular and the tour version on two different bikes. Considered heavy by those for whom this is important but I have remained 'P' free for four years of road commuting. Depends on budget and weight requirements as well as bike type too of course. I use 35mm tyres, too wide for some road bikes but comfortable for me and my hybrid. Two incidents in a week is unlucky to be honest with anything but the worst of tyres. Gerry

In hybrid sizes (assuming a largish tyre on a 700c wheel) I liked Continental's "Comfort Contact" - nice rolling for a large tyre, not too bad on the unplanned deflations, and hardwearing. I commuted in most weathers in and out of Manchester on these. These are tyres with a Kevlar breaker belt under the tread.

I'm riding Continental Touring Plus at the moment (the equivalent of the Marathon Plus) and find them heavy, and very finicky about tyre pressure (they roll nicely at the max, but feel leaden and slow below it) harsh ride too, compared to the Comfort Contact. These are tyres with a thick, p* protecting band of rubber under the tread, like the Marathon Plus.

I think it depends on the trade off you want to make - if you can't have any p*, ever, and don't mind the different (I think worse) feel of a heavily protected tyre, the plusses (or something similar) are the way to go. If you can fix the odd p* in exchange for a nicer ride, pick something like the Comfort Contact instead.

I've yet to have any problems with the Specialized Nimbus Armadillos on my hybrid, and it's seen some pretty horrendous gravel tracks and potholes. Not cheap at around £30 each though, and I haven't tried the obvious competition (Marathon + or Gatorskins).
