Had a message apparently from Kia yesterday telling me that my app will be redundant on 3rd. November and I'll miss out on all the amazing facilities of the new app.
Looked into it and the new app update will cost £58 for the year.
Checked with my Kia dealer today and yup, it's a scam.

Whereas VW really do charge 60 odd quid for full app functionality.

So do Hyundai once out of warranty esp if you want extra toys...be surprised if Kia weren't the same being the same group and all?
Looks like they are

Yep. My Hyundai one will expire after 3 years.
It’s the way all cars are going now. Just another way to cream money.
The younger generation are used to these sort of payments on subscription so don’t complain. It’s only the over 40s who remember when you bought something once and it was yours.

The fark?

Should be illegal, not a revenue stream.

As the owner of an ancient people carrier, are these apps necessary, or just pointless? What are they for, other than buying driver distractions as detailed above?
You can survive without it.
The facility to warm / cool the car 10 minutes before you need it is useful.
I also get the occasional notification if I have forgotten to lock it!

My car doesn’t have an app.

Thoughts and prayers. 😢

My car doesn't have an app

but it does have a SatNav which can work out the best route based on traffic etc based on a lifetime license
as it should be

however, it turns out that Garmin discontinued the product that supplies the traffic data
so it doesn;t work anymore
the SatNav works - but always thinks the roads are clear
and because it was "discontinued" then that is that

I can use my phone and use a satnav thing on there but that is not the point

there should be some sort of law stopping companies stopping things working in these ways!
