I just get so cross when I hear people saying "oh my child would never behave like that" or making commnets about others parenting when they see a child doing something they deem as naughty, or veindf dealt with in manner they wouldn't themselves.
I experience it both as a mother out with a child & as a teacher taking children out too, I may be a little 'over-sensitive' but until someone has walked in your shoes they have no right to make snap judgemnts or asssumptions without knowing the full facts *rant over*

PS - I enjoyed the video of BMX fun BTW - luckily, you didn't get rich p in the frame. That would have been a disaster.
Thnak you....and I reckon Fynn would have loved to give RichP a race round that track ;)

FM, off topic, but were you in a grey people carrier? I may have seen you as I cycled into the start area with a mate but when I cycled back round you had gone. If it was you! I was wearing a CC jersey.

Are you lot not talking about reigns, rather than leads? Reigns stop kids falling, I used them on ours when they were toddling, particularly on rough ground. I never needed them to keep them from running off but these leads look like that's all they were designed for, in which case it surely increases the amount of time it takes to impress into a child that they shouldn't run off. I wouldn't say it was lazy, perhaps misguided but I remain to be convinced otherwise, we are all different.

There two types isnt there and I think its important to recognize the difference - the 'reigns' style are good for toddlers in the purest sense who are just learning to walk or to use on that child who will run off no matter what you say (I can vouch for that child personally!) or the child that needs the extra care.

The 'leads' style I think are more of a safety backup in that you would hold your childs hand anyway, but the lead is there as a failsafe?

Both are fine when used with sensible parenting not as a substitute.

I'm convinced ;) It just looked odd when I saw it, perhaps because both times the parent didn't appear to be paying any attention to the child. One of those things which strikes you as odd at the time, kind of thing.
