why is the kinesis tk3 classed as a winter bike can you not just take the mudguards off and use it all year round.

Kinesis refer to it as a 4 season bike. Not sure why that's causing you confusion?

It's a really 'solid' frame. Read a bit on the heavy side

in my head the tk2 and tk3 are all weather bikes cos the alloy is a bit more crash proof than a carbon frame, hence the weight, well my frame and forks come to 1.3kg which is not too bad

A quality carbon frame - as opposed to the £999 stuff you can buy - is far more durable than alloy...

The only downside is that the standard max rider weight for most carbon road frames is 105kg, and every manufacturer I've asked the question of would not honour the warranty if a heavier rider should use the frame and it breaks, but that's more a question of me wanting a warranty rather than a question of the durability of a decent frame.

sure it is, but we don't want to be getting into this debate, its been done to death.
But yes, you can use it all year round but I don't tend to bother taking off the mudguards, cos that is what a summer bike is for.
I probably ride both as often during the summer and only ride the kinesis or my tourer come winter, which in my head is the 1st of october till the 31st of march, till then the summer bike stays indoors on the trainer

I find my bike works fine with mudguards on when it's dry too
As a motorcyclist as well, I can't help thinking of bikes with no mudguards in the same way as m/cs without centre stands - weight saved for what gain?. But each to his own, it's not a criticism.
