And of course in this country, we've been buying fuel in litres for years, but STILL measure fuel consumption in m.p.GALLON - !

No doubt because 45 mpg sounds better than 10 mpl

Just looked the highway code for stopping distances.

Speed is in mph
Stopping distances in metres
Or in "car lengths"

that only came in in the early 90s, as I remember I was learning to drive, and had all the stopping distances/thinking distances memorised in feet, and then my driving instructor mentioned in passing in my last lesson before my test, oh theres a new highway code, the distances are in metres now and you might get asked for both !!!

cue panic, off to a bookshop to find the newest highway code to buy and tried to memorise them in metres, fortunately they only asked for them in feet.

Gallons/mile is actually an area. As explained by Randall Munroe (xkcd) here: https://what-if.xkcd.com/11/

So you could express fuel efficiency in acres. Here's a link to a handy conversion
https://www.wolframalpha.com/input?i=gallons+per+mile+vs+acres

So 50 miles per gal = 0.02 gal per mile ~= 1.4 x 10^-11 acres

That's 140 nano-acres I think

And of course now with EVs, they meaure charging in mph.

In my ex hometown (Piqua,OH USA) a gas station opened that sold gas by the litre , this was in the late eighties. They didn't last long. I think it was rather inexpensive though, even when you did the math to convert to $/gallon.

Lefty tighty. Get it righty.
And of course now with EVs, they meaure charging in mph.

That makes a weird kind of sense. But it's specific to the vehicle type (and journey type) being charged. It would be like selling fuel in miles at the pump.

Then of course there are incandescent watt equivalent values for LED bulbs, that aren't real watts.
