What about the joint Anglo - French Concorde project? Parts that were made here were done using imperial and the parts made in France were made using metric….. and then the whole thing was joined together!
Learnt this during a visit to the Brooklands Museum near Weybridge this past summer. As well as the cars, there is a mass of aviation including one of the few Concordes still remaining. It’s a great museum and the Concorde experience is very interesting if you do go!

I always record my rides in miles for distance and feet for elevation. Always have always will.
However, for years now whenever I measure something it's in metres/cm/mm.
So much easier to say I need to cut that piece of wood to 1350mm than 4 foot 5 inches and 1/8.

That's absolutely fascinating.

I wish my dad was still about to ask, he worked in the aluminium industry (cylinder heads and stuff like that) and spent quite a bit of time going to Spain and Germany in the 60s and 70s. I wonder what units he was working in?

I did not know that! Shame NASA didn't learn from them ... https://www.simscale.com/blog/nasa-mars-climate-orbiter-metric/
