KMC Missing link failure!

Nice ride out today, cold and windy but bright. Just going through Milnrow when my chain broke, new ultegra chain (so new it's still on factory grease and not yet home-lubed) joined with a KMC missing link. Quick look showed it was the KMC link that had come apart. Found both bits and seems undamaged as far as I can tell, it doesn't seem abloe to come apart whilst clicked out to full length. Its been used for 4 or 5 chains, so is no spring chicken. Can't imagine how it could come undone though, even on the slack run I'd have thought there was enough tension to keep it healthily closed. I was able to sit on a nearby bench and upend the bike and fit my spare link in the nice sunshine, so no real problem.
Has anyone else had a link fail in use?

Replace quick links when you replace chains. They stretch too.

Yes a couple of weeks ago my KMC chain failed at the link, bit of a shocker its only a few months old.

+1 though I do keep the old ones for emergency spares
