Back from commute and absolutely knackered tonight.

Nothing different to normal maybe one mile an hour faster over the course.

Got into work today was fine and dandy.

After getting home - sore neck, sore legs, really tired.

I had a decent breakfast and lunch today - maybe not enough fluids and I didn't get a drink as soon as I got in because my 19 month old wanted to play.

Anyway - has some mash potatoes and veg and gravy - didn't really want it and lots of water but still feeling sh*te.

Thoughts fellow commuters? What went wrong?

I always think if you're even remotely under par, coming down with something etc etc (and you wouldnt neccessarily know it at the time)...a hard bike ride always lets you know it.

well it may please you to know that i feel like I've been run over today, so your not alone :welcome:

actually I'm a bit worried about my right thumb... it's the only part that doesn't hurt !!!!!:bicycle:

As its got colder my rides have become more tiring, as the legs just don't get into the swing of things, I just put it down to the cold and think of the summer again !

i was once told by a rider with 20 years experience that he used a hrm every day, that way he could tell if he was coming down with something. heart rate unusually high, then he knew to take it unusually easy. wonder if he was right or just full of sh***?

I notice this as well, although my theory is that because it's cold, I ride faster to keep warm - thus causing a less efficicent use of energy, but a more exilerating one. My legs never feel tired, I just notice that getting enough air in the lungs seems to get a bit harder..

Agree with Trumpet ..........

It's the cold. The body is working harder just to keep warm. This is extra work compared to a summer time commute. More cake.

Update -

Woke up this am feeling not too bad.

However, taking the views of the board I went on the train.

In work now and feeling fine.

I think maybe pushing the bike faster in the cold - not having a little snack-ette before jumping on the bike to come home may have been the problem.

Many thanks for all the views very help particulary the encouragement to eat more cake !!!!

Cheers guys

I was finding it hard to breathe after cycling about two weeks back, lasted a whole week if not more. I'm a (controlled) asthmatic and figured that it was probably just the cold air triggering an asthmatic response, and it would be the same all winter. Mr Houtkop then came down with either a horrid cold or a minor strain of flu (he had one day of fever - which is unusual if he gets a cold - and was lethargic for about 3 days after).

I'm now breathing fine again - so I can only imagine I had whatever he then came down with, but less strongly; and it's now gone!
