Yeah. My issue was the painkillers. They were noted as ‘addictive’, so I eschewed them, and because I was favouring one side ended up with a joint problem, which then needed physio, and (I assume) delayed the recovery. The ‘joys of cycling’ eh? :-)

Yep - You have to be careful with opioids - I refused to take them last year despite excruciating pain whilst on holiday - this led to my back muscles spasming to such an extent that the nerves got squashed and I temporally loss feeling in my legs. I t was explained to me by the A+E consultant that the opioids would stop\reduce the pain messages and reduce the muscle guarding spasms.

Spoke with my GP about it recently - he explained all about addiction and whilst he wasn't dismissive he said that a very few people would get addicted after only a few days - But for a lot of people addiction withdrawal means you get flu like symptoms for a couple of weeks - the headline grabbing opioid crackhead breaking into a pharmacy at 4am is very much the exception.

He said the decision taking or not taking should be weighed with the damage pain can do - both physically and mentally
