With this weather at the moment I'm still wearing bibtights. However, I'm looking to get into my new bibshorts as soon as possible and was wondering what the rest of you do as far as this transition goes.
Previous years I've gone straight from tights to shorts when I feel the weather is warm enough but am considering getting some knee warmers this year to speed the changeover.
Are kneewarmers a waste of time and if not what do you recommend for a skinny legged guy.

Knee warmers are a great bit of kit. Ideal for morning/evening rides in the summer, colder summer days, daytime rides in the spring/autumn. They are certainly ideal for extending your time in shorts at the end of the summer before it gets too cold.
Most importantly though knees are a very vulnerable joint, especially in a bit of wind or rain they can get cold and stiffen up without adequate protection... Plus once you warm up they'll easily fit in a back pocket.
I have to admit though I think I've only been in them once so far this year. It's been a bit too cold on the commute in the mornings. I've only managed to transition from the thermal tights into shorts and legwarmers so far! (apart from that one glorious week when I managed full shorts!)

As far as kit goes I've only ever had one pair - dhb from wiggle. They've been fine. I'm sure they do different sizes.

For cold commutes i am using running lycra leggings, i have knee warmers but the leggings pack down really small and if your using normal shorts it also gives you another layer to stop chilly willy .

I've not worn bibtights for weeks now - I find my core overheats with them if its much more than 5 degrees out.

Knee and leg warmers are perfect for this weather. If you want some fairly long knee warmers (more like half way between knee and leg warmers) then I can highly recommend the Santini knee warmers from Prendas. The matching warm warmers are ace as well (as is the service from Prendas - the best there is).

'chilly willy' is never nice if you make the switch to shorts/legwarmers too early. Nice warm thermal legs, but the chills where you least want them!
Was 5 degrees coming home from night shift a 3 am , not cold but enough to make me glad of an extra layer as i do not have any roubaix shorts or leggings.

Endura thermolite knee warmers are on the slimmer side, they are very good, not too thick and help bead the moisture off if it's wet too. They are on the shorter side as well, which is my preference.

Santinis also good also, but a bit longer.
