This thread appears to be almost female free, I wonder why?

And thanks RT for my laugh of the day.

Blimey, I doubt he'll be going down his local any time soon. Still, if Benny Hill was still going, this guy would be a shoe in for his team of dirty old men.

I was listening to this story on R4 yesterday. I was mildly amused by the disappointed tone in the female reader's voice.

How about this for kinky then? A few years ago we had a couple of guys around to do some work on the chimney. Coming back from a shopping trip we found the older bloke lurking in the corner of the garage, where he had no reason to be. Two weeks later we discovered that he had actually urinated into a box of my wife's possessions. When we began asking around we heard of somebody else who had found the same old bloke in her bedroom.

Don't want to say who he was but if anybody lives in Ramsbottom, Lancashire and wants a stove installed in their house, look outside the town for stove specialists.

Didn't you go to the police - try to kill him?

Surely the urine(DNA) would have been proof enough - it all sounds very creepy though RR!
Sorry, DNA won't show up in urine.

I locked a lad up once for stealing his neighbour's underwear. He was very reluctant to admit it but did eventually. He got a caution on that occasion, but the last time I heard of him he was arrested for urinating on an elderly resident at a care home through the open window. Takes all sorts I suppose.

RR, a mate of mine swears he gave up sniffing when he came across a particularly nutty skidmark in the dark.................

Not wanting to start an arguement and not knowing anything about DNA testing it was just a stab in the dark.

But according to the DNA Diagnostic Center - "DNA can be obtained from any bodily fluid that contains cells, including urine."

Pedant mode, but it helps dispel a common myth.

Urine itself does not contain any cells, so unless it was contaminated by blood or white cells from an infection, then it can't contain DNA. There is a chance it may contain sloughed cells from the urethra/ urethral opening. but the chances are so remote that it wouldn't be viable to test for it.
Pedant mode off:biggrin:

" Urine is not considered an ideal source of DNA due to the low concentration of nucleated cells present in human urine. The nucleated cells found in urine are typically white blood cells and epithelial cells. There are large differences between the amount of epithelial cells present in male and female urine. Females are more likely to have a higher number of epithelial cells present in their urine, vaginal cells being the
chief contributors."

This particular study went on to state that it was possible to grow on Mitochondrial DNA from the low yield of cells in male urine, but this is not useful for direct identification, as it only makes comparisons with maternal blood lines. (generations of your family on your mother's side share the same mitochondrial DNA so it can be used to eliminate but not inclusively identify a suspect).

So in this instance, knowing or suspecting it to be male urine, there would have to be a very good reason to go to the length and expense of proving that whoever pissed in a Lancastrian lady's box had the same maternal bloodline as the guy that fitted the stove.
