How were you planning on getting into the hold?
Lord knows. It was a handy bit of kit....a powerful thin flame that would be ideal for removing old paint from screw heads. I have looked up the regulations about packing fag lighters in checked-in luggage, and they could possibly have a slim case for stealing it.

Utter nobbers….

Well, write it down boy ......
Knife is one of those n+1 items. I carry my Swiss Army forester model (with saw) in the backpack and my Leatherman mini (with full sized pliers) in the bike bag. I have a bunch of single blade ones in regular use including an Opinel, a nice old bone handled Sheffield steel pruning knife (good for courgettes) a tough Buck Lite lockback for DIY and an original Leatherman for odd jobs around the house.
Treat yourself to a new or vintage knife.
I'm the same, I never go out unless armed to the teeth. My SAK is always with me often supplemented by Opinels and others. I managed to lose my SAK about ten years ago (I'd had it for over 20 years) and I was quite distraught. Replaced it with exactly the same model (camper, if anyone's interested).

Remove all gas from them, taping the ignition open(No pressure build up possible) it leaves them with no excuse.

Yes, I read similar advice. They also suggested sticking a note on "the weapon" saying...."It's empty!"

I'm interested in whether they picked it up on a routine scan of the baggage, or whether they flagged it after my case got lost.
