Knocked down on way to work - I want back on my bike!

I was knocked down on my way to work on friday night at Glasgow Airport.

I have been soo lucky though, 4 stitches in left elbow, road rash on my left hand side - knee and bum, a few scratches on my back and ankle.

Just stiff and sore really.


The driver just didn't see me, i had entered a roundabout to turn right and he entered from the opposite side to go straight on and drove right in front of me as i was about to exit right, just caught him coming at me and was able to swerve right so it was more of a side to side impact rather than him t-boning me. 2 independent witnesses thank goodness, so he has already been charged with careless driving and admitted he didn't see me (even with my brand new £200 front light).



Everyone keeps telling me off for being more worried about the bike being okay. I haven't seen it yet, already booked in for an inspection at Dales. I am off work till Sat, stitches out on Friday. Would it be too bonkers to want to cycle in on Sat? I really want to but my other half thinks i am bonkers

Firstly, GWS!

I would see what they say when you have the stitches out.

Just make sure you get his insurance to pay for everything needed to a, transport you sans-bike. b, putting everything right including grips/bar tape & clothing. c, PI claim. d, anything I've missed!

I'm climbing the walls as i am left handed and my arm is in a sling till stitches come out!

Only minor scratches on helmet, my favourite piece of cycle clothing, castelli white windproof gillet, ruined, but the shorts survived! Both will need replaced

Someone from work is dropping bike home today, but i am already looking to see what i can get for the same price if it is a right off! Though surprisingly i kind of hope it isn't as i got it last year through cycle to work and i actually prefer it to my road bike, i do more miles on it and have got kind of attached!

Firstly, I hope you recover soon, and great that you have witnesses and he's admitted fault so it sounds like an open-and-shut case.

Make sure you take pictures of your injuries and make notes of any problems and of all your losses. A good solicitor will make sure you get all you're entitled to - often things which won't immediately occur to you. Your LBS should be able to give you a written estimate for repairs to the bike, or replacement if it can't be fixed. If you're a CTC member, then you get access to Russell, Jones & Walker. Other solicitors advertise in cycling magazines. GWS and hope the bike can be fixed.

Glad to hear it wasn't more serious but to pick on one point you made re minor scratches on helmet - get a replacement and add that to the insurance bill you present. Scratches on the surfaces can often mean more substantive damage which you won't find until your next 'off ' and the helmet fails totally.

If it comes to it i can highly recomend National Accident Helpline,they helped me out a few years ago with my ex employer after an accident at work left me laid up for nearly a year.Hope you get well soon though and hope ya bike survived just as well

Ditto. The internals can be compromised - they say that a motorbike helmet should be replaced if you have an off, for the same reason.
