Disappointing. And rather worrying that the Police apparently don't hold details of the vehicles that come over from the continent. Equates to a license to hit and run without hope of follow up? I'd be happy for someone to correct me on this point. Sigh.

Anyhow, in the interests of the Brixton cyclists amongst you, steer clear of an orange Suzuki hatch, Romanian EU plate reg: B-97-DZW. Purveyor of very poor driving. Whether it's out of ignorance, stupidity or maliciousness, God knows.

Xi

Lesson learned.

You might be able to put a claim in to the MIB as the driver is not effectively insured??

Think it come to the question of who administrators the database and how would it be managed. On the surface it sounds simple but in reality a database can rapidity get out of hand and chew up a massive amount of man person hours.

Charge enough for the scheme to pay for itself. Maybe they can reallocate some of the public sector staff they want to chop. As for the rest, I'd happily take the project on if the government decided to punt it our way.

so all cars with foreign plates the cops can shrug their shoulders at?

frankly I think they're using that as an excuse to not investigate, anyone think that if a foreign registered car had knocked a copper over etc etc they couldn't trace it? Surely that car is registered in Romania, surely if people are allowed to freely drive around the EU, there must be somea method of accessing the database of the original countries records

not a nice accident from the sounds of it, as said, good that it wasn't worse

I suffered a hit and run while on my scooter, two excellent witnesses that got reg, model, colour of the car and one got a lok at the driver, cops attended and recorded, they later asked me if I wanted it pursued, of course I bloody do I said, they later told me they'd written a letter to the registered address and got no reply so were dropping the matter

they're bloody busy when it suits them

You can bloody guarantee they'd be on the phone to the Romanian cops if that had happened.

Are you in the CTC/LCC etc

If so use their soliciter scheme

Romania is part of the EU as such there is increasing sharing of the data bases covering these countries.

It is possible that the police can't be bothered with it being a cyclist/foriegn car.
