Don't worry if at first plod say the plates are a no trace; you can search on PNC for partial VRMs, a vehicle search by make, model, colour etc, and also, if you have the driver's address, by postcode. So it should be traceable if a bit of thought is put in.
BTW, hope you feel better soon!

More likely than a false plate is taking down the plate wrongly - it's done very easily, especially during floods of adrenalin. Just listen to how many times Gaz and I call the plates wrongly on video, for example.

+1 to taking a picture of the car, plate, and driver's face if you can.

Cheers all - some great advice. No fracture acc. to X ray, just painful shoulder. Fingers crossed it will heal (prob a torn muscle the doc reckons). Plod is to see if the farm shop have CCTV and talk to the witness. I could have taken the plate down wrong of course but I'm sure I made an effort to get it down right- though as you all know, anything can happen when you've just been hit. I shouldn't have let the guy go though and called plod then and there. They seem to be taking it seriously though which is something.

I do have a helmet cam but I just can't get the damn thing to work! so I put it away in a drawer for a while as I was spending hours faffing about with it. I'll have a look at Gaz's guides again and have another go with it maybe at the weekend- I suspect it would have been mashed today anyway though as I came down on that side.

Bastard driver. Number plate not recognised and gives you a false address?!
Hope you get a result from the police/farm shop enquiry and you mend up quickly.

Not wishing to tempt fate, but is there a 'sticky' on the forum that deals with 'what steps to take in the event of a road traffic collision'?

I hope you recover fully GW and they manage to trace the driver. I suspect (hope) he might be a regular at the farm shop and they can assist the police.

Here for rides.
Advice given me from a local traffic sergeant who says hit and run/drive aways with cyclists as victims are too large a part of his workload...

go down. stay down. dial 999. lay it on thick. keep down until the twos and blues arrive. then stage a miraculous recovery in the back of the ambulance.

get well soon and I hope you get a lucky break and a supportive copper.

Seriously, is there such a 'sticky' on the forum? Does anyone know?

Brilliant suggestion! There should be - you want to write one and we all pile in with suggestions?

You know I'm very glad you're back on here Maz. There was a time when you weren't around for a bit, and that was a big loss to this forum.

Very sad to hear this and glad you aren't too badly injured.

When I was 19, I was t-boned by another driver in a car park. He got out, stinking of booze, shook my hand, said the dent would be "easy to sort out" and went to return to his car. Then I said "Hang on, you've just crashed into me, I need some details" at which point he gave me a false name and phone number.

Being young, naive and inexperienced I'd not taken his reg plate or anything, so I ended up losing out.

I hope the guy who hit you gets found out and punished appropriately.
