6 out of 10 - bottom of the class

I can't remember ever being specifically taught dates in history - was all about primary and secondary evidence nonsense.

My History lessons were CSE Social and Economic History. Agricultural and Industrial revolutions no real dates to remember at all. All the dates I know have been picked up over the years and have stood me in good stead in pub quizzes.

Only questions 1 and 7 solely concern England.
Q1 magna carta - England
Q2 when di spanish armada attack England
Q3 Richard III Bosworth Field - England
Q4 Charles I executed by English parliament
Q5 Union between England and Scotland - token Scottish presence
Q7 Battle of Hastings - England
Q10 Peasants Revolt - England

So thats 6 questions exclusively English and 3 British and the Versailles one is really world/european history.

in the scheme of things how useful is this knowledge? I can see that getting approximately the correct century might matter. I can also see that knowing an overview of the events themselves could be of use. But the specific year, nah, that's just an additional memory trick.

There are a quite a few things that I learnt by rote that have only been of use in quizzes since.
Er, the first four questions in the quiz amounted to precisely 'what century did this take place in?'..

As to 'approximately the correct century', this isn't U-Th dating..

I did not bother answering any of the questions which were just English history...which are not British history at all.

England and wales were combined in 1283, so anything after that date concerned both England and Wales.
