I have kept a few in my pond for over 15 years but have been offered the chance to take 15 mid sized ones from someone that has gone into a home . I'd say they are about 7 years old having viewed them today .
The pond they are in is massive and i'm worried giving them less space will be a bad thing . I dont want to take them on to just have dead fish or unhappy fish .
Any experts on here ?

Make yours bigger. I had loads for over 10 years. Moved house, gave them away. Gutted.

I don't have fish in my pond, but do have them in an indoor tank. For aquarium there is a general rule about fish per litre or gallon.
Logic, (possibly distorted ^_^) would tell me that a pond is essentially an outdoor aquarium and if was stocking my pond, subject to advice to the contrary, I would be following the same rule as my tank.

I reclaimed something from the fly tippers thats about 5 ft x 6ft x 3ft deep . Made of fibre glass but if i put a pond liner in it i think it will be fine as a raised pond but its more like a holding tank a shop would use . Where they are kept now is a massive above ground swimming pool , i guess 6 ft deep and 20 ft round .
my worry is the fish wont like the smaller space and die . I dont want that !

Couple of online calculators, for example http://www.howmanyfish.com/
If your pond/s are going to big enough between the two of them,I suppose one question might be what will happen to them if you don't have them? Take a chance with the reduced size and give them a life or......
