Two of my favourite riders lose to one of my least favourite* 😭


*I genuinely dislike him, though it's almost completely irrational, I really don't know why. Might have been the drama with Demarre, though I'm not a big Demarre fan. Might be that he's been anointed the successor to Pinot, complete with the fawning hysteria. It's all probably unfair, but stuff him.

Shame Bernal was out of position with 200m to go as he covered that faster than anyone and closed a big gap.

Pidcock in 20ish was supposedly targeting this stage. I think a few teams got it quite badly wrong. To have that many trains up until about 1.5km, but that they were mostly GC teams - weird.

I found it odd his team were never near the front in the final 20km or so I watched. It felt like a perfect stage for him. His interview yesterday was a bit weird, I wondered if he was coming in deliberately undercooked but then he was right up there in the Stage 1 bunch sprint. Despite that he’s very well placed on GC.

I think today was just a day when your team needed to be really on the ball. I don't think anybody was doing much moving up the bunch without a couple of guys to help.
