Late to watch that Chapeau Gaudu !
Took that last corner perfectly mugging Vinny and Mads.
Scared of jinxing Egan but can't wait to see him in the mountains...and to collect on my 66/1 e/w 😁

Pidcock in 20ish was supposedly targeting this stage. I think a few teams got it quite badly wrong. To have that many trains up until about 1.5km, but that they were mostly GC teams - weird.

STAGE 4. bit of an odd one ... Early break for kom points ? Sprint by the guys who can get over the lumps .

Delighted for Gaudu. Another victim of the French press overhyping a talented but not exceptional rider. Loved the way he took that last corner. A proper racer's maneuver. Vingegaard having a proper whine about it though.

I hope you collect on your bet. I'd love to see Bernal on the podium.

Vingegaard having a proper whine about it though.

I don't see why, he went wide following Mads and Gaudu took a tight line and got on the pedals quicker. Great move!

agree would be lovey to see Bernal back to his best and competing properly

I may be taking it out of context or he may have been misquoted but the quote I saw was “It was a bit of a nasty move.”

I heard it live but don't recall that bit. He mentioned the dive bomb and I couldn't decide if he was moaning about it or was complementing it (his delivery is always a bit dour so it came across as a whinge but not sure it was intended that way).

I wouldn't even call it a dive bomb - Gaudu didn't cause anyone else to have to change their line, he just took the corner much tighter and faster than they did

He definitely wasn't impressed by it, but as he said "that's cycling". If you watch it back again you can see he's cutting back into the corner when Gaudu comes through and is a bit taken by surprise. I think for someone not really used to sprint finishes it probably felt a lot closer than it looked on TV, and it did make him change his line.

Err, yes he did - he was following Mads P's line, which was start wide and come tight, but when he came in tighter Gaudu was already there. That doesn't make it illegal or dodgy or anything, but he didn't get the line he was going for.

So, 20km in, the Cat 3 opener done and now on the steady uphill leading to the first Cat 2 and we have a break but no pictures for a couple more hours

La Vuelta races in 4 countries this year, Italy France, Spain & Andorra. Is that a record for a grand tour or have we have a 5 country one?
