Ladies (and fellas), I need your help choosing a gift

Right, it's my mum's birthday on the 26th, and I am pretty much fresh out of ideas for gifts for her. So I've come to you lot for what I would call a "brainstorm" if the PC brigade would allow me. So whatever comes into your head just post it. The "best" idea I have had so far is for a CD, but I've no idea which, I'll have a browse around in the internet, but, to be perfectly honest, if she wants certain music I can always get it free for her.

The budget is £20 max, as I am a poor student =(

Well I thought about that, but it'd be very rude indeed to display a lady's age!

She's in her 40s.

I forgot to add, that she doesn't drink alcohol.

Without knowing anything about her likes/dislikes it is difficult,but she will know you dont have much money,and it is always far more the thought that counts anyway so just as a general suggestion you could go for a nice box of chocs and some perfume,or try dropping some hints to her (or to your Dad) as to anything she would like such as a book,or makeup or something.
Also dont forget that actions speak louder than words so if your at home on her birthday spoil her in ways such as doing the dishes or cooking her a meal.

1. A voucher for a manicure or pedicure
2. A nice bunch of flowers from your supermarket (£10) + a big box of maltesers (with money left over.
3. A Terramundi (those earthenware saving jars) with 'Happy Birthday' on it (you can normally get these in a big garden centre).
4. Homemade vouchers from you to do things like wash the dishes, cook a meal, put the bins out etc etc. Costs nothing.
5. If she gardens, a pink trowel and fork or a flowery patterned pair of secateurs.
6. If she does DIY, then a flowery set of screwdrivers, hammer, stanley knife etc etc.
7. Matalan normally have nice sets of necklaces and earrings, bangles etc for well under £20.

Make her CD with all her favourite music on it , the age of the mix tape really is dead isn't it

Try thinking about what she enjoys or buys herself as a treat. Buying something that's suited to her and has needed a bit of thought or effort should make more of an impression than spending lots of money.

If she likes chocolate, try somewhere that sells handmade chocolates. Even £10 would get you a decent sized box and and they look more impressive than All Gold etc.

Or you could take her out for tea and cakes, if you've been away for a while she might like to spend the time with you.

A pamper morning maybe? I treat my sis inlaws to one each on their 50th, but it was 26 pounds, they got their hair done, hands and feet were done with the nails with that white edge that strengthens the nails and looks nice, and a massage too, they loved it.
And while she is there, cook her favourite dinner for when she gets home.
