Ladies flat bar road bikes

I have a mountain bike,but now want a purely road bike too. There is no way I could manage a true road bike,are there any good middle range say around £500 flat bar road bikes? Will aim to do around 30 miles,much appreciated!

Here's a possible for £500 it's the Giant that vickster referred to.

This is the ladies equivalent of the Escape. You could also look at the Rapid if it fits you properly.

My Marin is perfect for bumpy tracks,want something a bit nippier for roads and around 30 miles or so if I ever get to so! Any ideas just great,even hybrids

You mentioned the Whyte Strawberry hill in another thread that fits the former. Do you want a ladies bike or happy with a men's/unisex? The latter will have thinner tyres, what is scary thin for you?

Which shops are local and folks can see what might be worth considering

I suppose scary thin are the ones I see people riding very fast,that look like one rain drop and you'll be off! I've never ridden a road bike,near me I have - Behindbars.co,UK, www.pedalpowerabingdon, outdoortradersuk.com,I'm off to have a chat and think about trying different tyres as suggested to see how I feel,but plan to keep the Marin for rough cycle tracks. A 28 or 32mm tyre won't be too scary

Something like the giant linked above by MikeW would certainly be a good option or the Alight

Perhaps disk brakes might be helpful if riding in the rain too (although they add a little bit of weight to the bike)

So something like the Whyte Carnaby (I have a Cambridge and although it's too small for me, it's really good to ride, comfortable and swift). Behindbars (excellent name ) sell Whyte

This colour is lovely, comes in a 'bone' colour too

A little over budget at £550 but most LBS's will negotiate on price

A carbon fork for reducing the weight a bit and also increasing comfort by reducing road vibrations is also my personal preference (but this will add too much to the cost if you want disk brakes)
