Hello everyone, I picked up this old Raleigh and I’ve a few questions.
Is it a Lenton? How do I date it (frame/SAhub etc)? Any idea of original decals? And has anyone got a chain guard.
TIA
Rob

Looks like a 70's Raleigh Wayfarer. There should be a number stamped on the frame, either under the bottom bracket or maybe on the seat tube under the saddle vertically.

The head tube lugs do arouse some suspicion in me. If it's Lenton era the frame number will be stamped in the seat tube clamp lug, and the rear wheel should have a 40 hole hub with a credible SA date code in the hub casing. Take a look at both areas and report back on the numbers discovered.

The hub looks an old one with 'Patent Applied For' stamped into it :becool:

There's normally a date code stamped in but I've a feeling PAF ones pre-date that, if there is a code it will only be the last 2 numbers of the year it was made, E.G. 51 for a 1951 hub and so on.

T at the end of the number is 1951-52 I think, older than what I thought, mind you they didn't change for years lol..

Searching on t'internet suggests PAF AW hubs are pre WW 11 of course it could be an older wheel put into a newer frame by someone who had 'got one'. how many spokes in the rear wheel ?
