Lakeside Camping in France

Looking for some suggestions if anyone's got experience of lakeside campsites en France!

For the last three years the 3BM clan has dutifully camped in the UK and got rained on every year. In fact last year, one week into the holiday, I said to Mrs 3BM I'd rather be at work and I cut the trip short to do just that!

This year we're off to France - staying with family in the Orne region of Normandy for the first and last couple of days and camping elsewhere for the rest of the time.

I'm looking for, preferably, a lakeside campsite (so we can enjoy salt-free swimming, etc.) within a day's drive of Normandy. Most likely heading south so we can hopefully enjoy some sunny weather.

No idea but can we have a camping thread for such things? I looked at a camping forum and it was all soooooooo boring, not like here at all, no sense of humour and out of date posts and it strikes me that you guys know a thing or 2 about camping. Know it is about cycling really but...? It could be combined with travel and good places to visit (with a bike/family to link it in a bit?) Not the same as touring but family biking????

From my childhood I recall there's some great lakes north of Cap Ferret near Bordeaux. Beauty of the location, if driving, is you can pick lake or sea and guarantee yourself a good day. Let me see if I can find the location..........
