Don't know anything about laptop batteries but does it say what type they are? Lithium ion, Nimh or Lithium polymer? This may explain the difference.

Yes, there is a big difference in LiPo battery quality. Big. Unfortunately you have no way of knowing if they are good or bad other than going for reliable brand names. By that I don't mean you should buy an HP battery, but if the compatible battery is made with Panasonic batteries, it should be good. I recently researched battery prices - the individual cells, 1865 something, and the difference in price is astonishing. I did buy el-cheapo ones last time and they hardly lasted 10 charges. This time I'll bite the bullet.

Can't find it on Anker!
Yeah, currently unavailable: Shame, it gets good reviews!

Depends how much you rely on it. I got an el cheapo off ebay, which is fine for me because I seldom use the thing away from the mains. If you use it on battery all the time and need best possible performance, it might be worth shelling out the extra for a better one. Trouble being, other than the HP one, price doesn't necessarily correlate with performance. I'd go cheap - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Long-Life...408201?hash=item3f7ad04149:g:XxkAAOSwyQtVzwg~ - If it doesn't work out, at worst you've blown a tenner. If it does, you're sorted.

That's my inclination as I suspect the ten quid one is probably the same as the £30 one.

Just look at the reviews, that's my normal approach. I just scan them to find one that sounds like they know what they are talking about.

Always worth using a quality battery. Remember the Galaxy Note7?
Presumably Samsung thought they were using a quality battery! The problem was that they got obsessed with device slimness and shrank the design a bit too much which led to the battery getting squeezed and electrodes touching and shorting the batteries out.

I bought an el cheapo battery on eBay for my Dell laptop. It worked well for a couple of years and then failed. It was so cheap compared to the official battery that I would go that route again. 2 years for a quarter of the price of something that would probably last no more than 3 or 4 years seems like a good deal.
