You will probably get a better machine, but then just waiting a month will get you a better machine.
The price drop and performance increase on computers/laptops is scary. Look back a few years and a £300 laptop would've been £1.5k
But you've gotta bite the bullet at some point, if you can wait then the sale is probably as good a time as any

I once read an by a psychologist article on shopping and sales........

Basically if you are happy with the purchase you made and the price you paid then why worry if it is cheaper in 6 months, or two weeks?

with a weakening pound and the growing strength of the Far East economy you could see prices go up on imported electricals!

Yes, but it'll take a little time. The stuff being sold now, and in January, will have been in warehouses for months.

I would be looking at all times and if you see a bargain, grab it. Do your homework though, find out what brands, models are the good ones. Often the ones that are carrying big reductions are the ones that aren't selling, and they're not selling for a reason!

stuff isnt warehoused for month, it is sat on ships getting here for months

But increased costs to the wholesalers will be reflected in current prices, else they wouldn't have cash flow for forward ordering at higher prices.

We buy kit from two of the UK's largest IT wholesalers, and I have noticed alot of things have bottomed out with regards falling IT prices.

I dont think we are going to be walking into Sainsburys and picking up DVD players for £19.99 for much longer.

Computers are constantly coming down in price and improving in performance, so you will always suffer the problem of comparing your two month old laptop with what's on the market then. If you know what you want and will enjoy using it then buy it. If you'd benefit from a bit more research then hold off a while.

What do you think will happen then ?
If Sainsbury's et al put the price up to £29.99 people will not buy at all because they will remember that they have been available for £19.99

I think as the Far East economy grows in strength they will start to demand more for themselves. The world is a changing.

Sort out what it is you want from a laptop and then get it at the best price available when you want/need it.

If you wait for the price to drop then you will see higher spec laptops becoming nearly within budget and then you will spend more because it will be tempting to get the better one. But if you are going to spend more then your budget on a better one then you could wait another month and the price will be within budget but another even better one will be out!

The days of double the power for half the price are coming to an end.

That said the laptops 10 years from now may well be half the price they are today and have many times the power, but in price terms things have begun to plateau out.

Our weakening currency against the strengthening eastern currencies means the £19.99 DVD will be a thing of the past very soon.

The likes of Currys and Comet are going to be bleeding at the eyes in January. They could well be almost giving stuff away in a desperate attempt to get some cash into the business.

Price rises? That can only happen when goods are already selling, if they are not then you might as well shut up shop as ask for more money for them.
