hey all,

i'm about a week late in posting but all is well - i haven't become lorry/van/chav meat just yet!

i'm now used to the seat on the bike, no more sore bottom and the bike is a pleasure to ride - i have found it isn't the hill on the road stretch home from work that's the kicker, it's actually much steeper on the way to work, which i hadn't anticipated but it's a decent workout in the morning!

generally i'm finding most lorry/truck/van and car drivers to be most accepting of my unexpected appearance on their daily drive and they give me more than enough space - the odd one doesn't but i guess that's to be expected. my traffic sense and awareness has improved ten-fold.

most importantly, i'm enjoying it, it's a little challenge in the morning that leaves me feeling good when i arrive at work - apres shower - and good when i get home to my new home - the only downside of living in 'the fen' is that there are no buildings for miles, it's very flat and i am seemingly forever doomed to be riding in to a poxy head wind! oh and that hill? i've got it licked now.

average speed on the commute = about 13 mph...top speed so far = 26mph!!!

ooh, and i get to cycle home tonight!

thanks jo,

it's going really well and dare i say it, not as difficult as i thought it might be in these early days!

i also notice that i'm not the only one having issues with the wind...it makes me feel all the more better to know i'm not alone in cursing and muttering at the 'poxy wind!'

For every headwind you face, that slaps its mighty hands across your shoulders and says: "Where d'ya think you're going?" ..you'll get to take advantage of a tail wind, your body acting like a windsail.

+1  tailwinds - i get up a decent speed and think 'wahey!' it's only later i realise it wasn't my athleticism

out here in east anglia, it does seem as though i could be riding in to a head wind, stop and turn around on the very same road and still be facing the damn thing!

thanks all for your encouragement

i am slightly concerned about the habit i seem to have developed of talking to myself, sort of coaching myself along while riding - i'm sure i look as radio rental as car drivers do when they're chatting via bluetooth...only i m actually talking to myself!
