In the market for a lawnmower , we have a large lawn front and back , so a an electric plug in is not on my list . Looking for either a petrol or possibly a rechargeable one , do want stripes so needs the rear roller ! What’s your recommendations, currently using a clapped out Webb which to be fair starts every time !

I restore old lawnmowers for a hobby.

Honda power, every single time. Steer clear of Briggs and Stratton rubbish.

Buy a large walk behind powered mower if you have a large garden. Or a ride on. Prices vary considerably depending on home users to commercial level. Upto £10k for a super professional unit

Me old man loves his Honda !

So do I. Not his Honda though, mine. A Honda Izzy. 10 years old, starts first time every time - and it's had a hard life. I've recently replaced the handle but other than that, regular maintenance (oil, air filter)

Ours never caused us any issues.

The year after we moved in to the last house, we bought a Mountfield 51cm mower with a 3Hp Briggs & Stratton engine. We had close to an acre and half of land, with probably 2/3 of that under grass, and we used that mower for 20 years, and for most of the summer for the first 18 of those years, I would be running it 3-4 hours per week.

Finally got rid of it when it had some problems, and we were told it would cost about £120 to repair, buy which time we were in the current house which has no need for such a large mower, and were able to get a suitable electric one for £80 (Spear & Jackson). Still quite a large garden for a modern house, but half an hour every two weeks is all it needs.

Well, write it down boy ......
Briggs and Stratton can be good, but you need to know which models to avoid (generally anything with a plastic carb).
The Honda Izy's are good, but are let down by the steel deck which rusts through eventually. The engines themselves are great.
Strangely enough I recently put a Honda Izy engine onto a Hayterette deck (all aluminium) which is the best of both worlds (unless you want to collect the grass), but good luck finding a Hayterette nowadays.
