How old is yours? I bought a Mountfield petrol one in 1998 and it is still going well. Never changed the spark plug but only a good clean every year . After the winter , it always starts first time . Good value for money I say.

Mine is around 30 years old. I think his name is Pedro.

I was daft enough to buy an Italian make called Ibea. Great design, terrible engineering, went bust, are now producing again.

It has just (once again) become the world's heaviest push mower, so off it will go to the lawnmower repair man who will help me decide whether to simply cut my losses and go back to Hayter...

A month old. My last one was one of the original electric flymos from 1978 but finally died. I did look longingly at the petrol ones, but my garden is manageable and I couldn't justify the pollution of petrol.

[QUOTE 4805924, member: 9609"]I can get my lawn mower video out again - I think 1990 so 27 year old, takes me 45 minutes a cut 42 cuts a year (?) 850 hours of work, so it is only like a car that has done 30k miles ?
the blue smoke in the video is just oil burning off in the exhaust, it was first start of the year, there is no smoke normally

42 cuts per year????

Must be some weird micro climate or you give it a thrice weekly shave. Cutting season here is April - mid November. So about 32 weeks. Probably about 20 cuts, max

Son has set up a little gardening round so I use his £100 Homebase petrol mower. Only a year old but it has done about 200 cuts already. New spark plug for the Spring, oil change
