I'm lazy but I'm still commuting by bicycle, the weather is great not too cold and not too warm, rain is fine keeps you on your toes, plus it is so boring in the car.

This is my first winter commuting, having the right clothes/equipment makes a huge difference. Knowing I will not loose all the effort I put in last year and need to start all over again in spring is a big incentive.

The Christmas break has added 10 minutes to my commute. I'm severely hacked off. Don't let this happen to you: get out there before it's too late!

You utter, utter wuss. You're as soft as Bara Brith.
Next time I come up to Wales I'm gonna kick your butt.

I've got a new Wallace and Gromit cycle top.
You can admire the back of it. From quite some distance.

Is that the sort of thing you had in mind?

You so know that that will never happen. Wallace & Gromit top or no, you'll be admiring my Carradice saddle bag in the distance as I pedal off up the hill. It'll just take me a bit longer to drop you this time .

Well I did it. 16 miles. Ok the shortest route and I did contemplate getting the train again (I can take my bike on the train one stop and cut the commute in half).

But I refused to give in. I said I would do it, so I did. The temperature was a bit of a surprise though, 12 Degrees!

I'm doing it again tomorrow too! C'mon Plax, its fun!

I did about 10 miles today which felt good ... very strange cycling in the non cold ... no buff, only thin gloves, no jumper layer, and coat open - if only it hadn't been drizzling.

Now you're all making me feel lazy. I went out yesterday and did 17 miles but didn't get my arse into gear today.

Everyone give me a round of applause. I actually cycled in this morning, and it was quite hard going in parts due to the extra fat I'm carrying around no doubt. It was drizzling and fairly windy but I still did it. Picked a hell of a day for it if the weather reports are anything to go by. Apparently the Met Office has given us a severe weather warning for heavy rains and flooding this evening and tomorrow. Hopefully by this evening they mean after 6pm so I don't get washed away on my way home.

:bravo:

Nice work, Plax. Hope you're enjoying the smug, "i did it!", feeling.
Hope you also had a good day with your sister yesterday.

And fingers crossed for a safe journey home tonight

Yay Plax!!

I've been feeling the same since I started back at work after a long period off the bike (the horrendous snow in early Dec, followed by three weeks' holiday, then ice and more snow just as I started back).

I cycled in last Friday (1st time in my three days back) when it was -7, and it was really enjoyable if a little nippy. Then there was more snow and ice that weekend so I put off cycling in until Wed to give some of the back streets and paths a chance to thaw. Found out on Wed that they hadn't and had an interesting time cycle-skating for large parts of my route. Got the bus yesterday to allow the temps to rise further and melt more of the ice & compacted snow, and - although not completely gone in some parts - this morning the ride in was fine (if a little wet to start with!). I almost chickened out through laziness when I heard the torrential rain thundering off the roof when the alarm went off at 5.30, but once I got on the road I loved every minute of the ride.

The cycling to work isn't a problem for me, i simply refuse to use the car, unless i really have to. Not that i get up every morning with the urge to cycle, i just feel i must do it.
My problem at the moment is lack of enthusiasm for running. I've always tried to run 2.5 miles every other night followed by 20 minutes of jumping rope ( Skipping  ). About two weeks before Christmas i found it harder and harder to get off my bum and do the running!.........And i'm still struggling now. Can't seem to get it back.

I'm still alive! We had a bit of a downpour this afternoon but by home time it was totally fine, even nicer than this morning as it wasn't windy or drizzling. I'm hoping that the Met Office is lying again, and we won't actually have heavy rain and localised flooding tonight/tomorrow. I feel my motivation slightly creeping back up but will be easily dashed by bad weather. I'm having a pickled egg to celebrate.

Well done Plax.

The important thing about commuting (by bike) is build it into your routine.. I have a warm car sat on the drive, but never use it.

We all know, no matter how sluggish and tired you feel in the morning, you'll feel loads better after a few hundred yards on the bike..OK not 100% fit but 1,000% better than if you'd driven or caught public transport.

Just do it by routine - it works.......... You'll also feel good !
