My son is about to start hospital doctor training in Basingstoke. Long hours and the nature of hospital doctor accommodation will will exclude any signiificant maintenance work. So, he will need the support of a Shimano competent LBS. Any experience out there?

I can highly recommend Jon Hirons. Jon used to be the workshop manager for ProBikeFit at Thatcham before they shut down and he now works independently from his own workshop in Tadley.
@Vertego put me in touch with Jon when my bike was creaking so loudly it was scaring other cyclists. Jon certainly knows his onions and he got my bike running better than when it was new, so smooth and no creaks or clicks anymore. His rates are also very reasonable indeed.
