That was the year of my one trip there.
Did a detour on the way to a holiday one year to the Mulsanne Straight. A Mondeo estate with 4 bikes on the roof doesn't give quite the correct feel though.

I went about a dozen times from 1984 to 2005 but I haven't been since.

Great experience, i didn't usually drink that much out there as I was usually driving or riding back on the Sunday evening but others built some phenomenal creations from their bottle walls.

Weirdest thing was the first time I took my FIL over there. He's a very seasoned racer and marshall but it was his first Le Mans. We had a grandstand seat and watched the start and sat there long enough to get numb bums, at which point I said "shall we go and grab a beer?" He looked at his watch and exclaimed that we'd been sitting there for 3 hours, roughly twice the length of an F1 race yet there was still 21 hours until the chequered flag.

Le Mans is generally wet or hot. This year looks almost normal by comparison.

Yep thats the way I remember it, crashed out at the Mulsanne corner with enough beer to last 24 hours  after having a blast on the go carts at the dodgy fairground.

strange as we use to do same , then stop at first hypermarket and fill up on all fluids required .

the one thing i use to hate were the toilet facilties or lack of them , we even managed to get inside the airport ones once and they were not alot better

Toilets lol, after lessons of the first year we used to take our own toilet tent. First year was 5 of us in a Ford Fiesta with full camping gear and endless crates of duty free, not the most comfortable trip down before the blast back to Calais. Sally lines were still running then as I remember we chose them because of the all you can eat smorgasbord.

Fast and careful!
been there done that, built a bottle sculpture, its a great atoms from the time you get on the ferry,i never drove down was a passenger,he got speeding tickets so something to remember carry some extra euros, and another car in our party was converscated by the local french old bill for terrible speeding, but all in all a top weekend but costs do tend to run away but thats the same with all weekend jaunts you could do a family package for the same price
