Leather toe straps

Hi. Would anyone have worn/broken straps they would part with? Needed to clean hubs by an idle git :-)

Would velcro straps do the same job?
Amazon have cut to size with buckles for about £7

Every day is a school day irrespective of age. I've just googled cleaning a hub with toe straps and my flabber is gasted. I clean mine after every ride with a cloth (I'm retired so I have the time) so don't need to try the 'toe strap' method but if I was pushed for time then I'd certainly try it!
