Where I live we have these lovely pinch points, which are like a car-sized rectangle in the road. As a car-driver, you stop for it like it was a parked car, the traffic on the side without the pinch point having priority.
They left about a 2 foot gap on the left-hand side of these, which is marked as a cycle lane - so we cyclists can zoom straight on rather than have to go out round the pinch point.
These gaps, of course, are inaccessible to the road-sweeping machine. So they fill up with junk at the best of times, one of them got a fair amount of weeds growing in it earlier this year. They are now, of course, all full of leaves - they were dry leaves yesterday, but overnight will have turned in to a slippery mess.
These cycle lanes also thoughtfully contain at least one drain in each pinch point, to give you some slippery metal and a bit of juddering.
I tend to avoid these "cycle lanes", unsurprisingly!
