Been cycling donkeys years and never used a pair of leg warmers 15 years ago I chucked a pair. Been talked about on GCN I thought hang on if you peel them off as you warm up, how do they fit in small jersey pockets? Why not just have long bibs if it’s very cold & 3/4 if not too cold. Make it make sense about leg warmers.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
cant see the point in 3/4 myself, if its cold enough to cover my knees then my shins need it too  , i carry one of those fake water bottles to bung stuff in when riding this time of year as i can manage with one water bottle which i would refill at a cafe if needed .

Leg warmers certainly work for me when its not much above freezing and keep my knees happy. I like that they dont have a restrictive effect ie they arent stretched-unstretched-stretched- unstretched as i peddle which would be the case with a full length base layer.

If do a ride starting early morning, going up mountain passes, or finishing late. You may go from just above zero to mid 20s and back. If you are riding a short period, with little change in elevation then not needed.

Also great if you are riding in shorts, the heavens open, legs get cold, and you need to warm up.

Leg warmers on for morning commutes, when it is colder. No need for them on the way home in the warmer afternoon.

This..

Tie them to your handlebar ends when you take them off so they act as 'streamers'....................helps if you shout "Whoop and Wheee" every now and then. :becool:

3/4 length bibs are the longest I ever use, even when it's below zero.

Faster group rides like I had yesterday 3/4s leg warmers are ideal at this time of year. It'd be too hot at 11-14 deg for longs (especially at the end) and at the start it would have been too cold for shorts too. I've seen wider temperature changes too on fast group rides ha full length leg warmers and discarded them into a back pocket at the cafe. Today's slower group ride and 7-10 degs C, definitely called for bib longs though 🥶

My Aldi Winter Running trousers gave had a resurrection. Being near waterproof they block out the wind, so gave been perfect for strong chilly winds of the last week.
Once milder and with less wind the lack of breathability is their usual negative , though my switch to electric might make them mire versatile.

I wear leg warmers when the weather turns cool in late September until it gets cold. Then it's bib tights until the temperature starts to rise again and I go back to legwarmers for a few weeks till spring warns up.

They easily roll up to fit in a jersey pocket. I've never seen the point of ¾ bibs.
