I'm surprised we haven't had any angry wheel builders* on here complaining about those radial spokes and quoting Jobst Brandt.

* An oxymoron. Wheel builders are always angry.

Have you ever built a wheel? It either goes well and is a pleasant relaxing task or it doesn’t and it makes you angry.

really really angry. I mean really friggin angry! You know… ANGRY…

GRRRRR… SPIT SNARL WOOF GRRRRR FRIGGIN SPOKES FRIGGIN DAMN RIM CUT FINGER BLOOD ARTERY SPIT GROWL ARGH….

sorry about that, fond memories.

I must have done something wrong…

The optional Tomos decal set woukd finish that nicely.

Tomas! There’s a name I’ve not heard in a while! They sold those here for a bit. I used to see the occasional Tomos dolled up as a cafe racer, full power launches to assure leaving them for dead off the line at a traffic light with the Kawasaki Ninja wasn’t sporting, but is was fun.

I know, but if you can’t make other stuff with the blocks in the pack it’s not really original Lego. It’s just a model kit made by Lego.

Of course you can. It's rare to find a truly custom brick in a kit, unless you count exterior bricks with printed designs instead of stickers.
My son has built lots of kits and most of them he's dismantled and built loads of other things.

One of the pleasures of building the kits is seeing the clever ways the designer has approached problems reusing existing bricks. The lightsabre handles for Star Wars minifigures are used as architectural details in buildings or wands in Harry Potter sets. Minifigure hair pieces were used as birds nests, car wheel arches are used as petals. etc etc

Tautology actually 🤓

Which seems extra fitting in the case of a wheel builder. Nobody wants slack spokes.

Plenty of comments re space stations etc on Lego forums re the wheels so doubt this will be only use of them. Quite likely once the set is heading for retirement they will ill release it in another colour with the odd tweak. Beyond the basics many Lego parts hve been specifically designed for a set then found other uses.

I'm very tempted by this but space to display it is a problem

Ditto, I've commented on the main Lego thread that Lego are missing a big sales opportunity by not making half height bricks and thinner exposed edges so allowing the bigger sets to offered accurately at around half size.
