I'm with the Edinburgh lads - too much ice & frost for shorts. Yesterday I hit a sheet of 1cm thick ice 20m long right across the road. Much puckering.

I stay in longs until it gets too hot, I find them very comfy

Same for me this year and it's been fine.

Commute yesterday confirmed to me that it's still too early for shorts.

I've been commuting in just-over-the-knee shorts since Christmas. When it was really sub-zero then I chucked a pair of tights on as well.

This week I even ditched the fleece and wore shorts, short socks, t-shirt and a lightweight jacket.

I've gotta to have respect for the bloke Ive seen the the last few days, going down hill as I'm going up, he's in mtb shorts. The temperature when I've seen him after 9am had risen to -1deg yesterday and barmy 0deg today; he'll be in speedos next week.

First commute today in shorts and it was great ! Got a few stares off motorists and fellow workers who were still wrapped up with gloves and coats in their CARS !!!

Funnily enough, one of the girls at work this afternoon commented to me that she'd seen a cyclist in shorts this morning driving in and that she herself had been freezing.
