There is nothing wrong with drop bars and low gearing, you can get MTB gearing or adventure gearing readily with STI shifters

How low gearing can you get with drop bars and how do you set it up? Is is just a standard groupset combination or something special?

Watching this thread with interest, though I do not have the sight issues I am a fairly unfit occasional commuter looking to consolidate a Condor Squadra and Ridgeback Genesis Day 00 to buy a 'touring' bike with flat bars as I am hoping to undertake some adventures of my own - though my Plymouth to Ilfracombe ride of 90+ miles seems rather soft in comparison to the OP. Also looking for recommendations of bikes!
