I always take a p******e repair kit plus a spare tube. Only needed it once in 3 years but!!!
On my ride today I came across a young guy who's inner tube was completely shredded. He was on the long walk home and trying to phone for help/a lift.
I said "its no help to you now but you really should take x y z with you".
I couldn't help as my spare is 25mm and he had something like 32mm on.
Re-enforced my decision never to go without.

Ah, but my friend opened up the box of a brand new inner, and it was shredded!
We ended up fitting my smaller inner to her wheel.

I was miles from home once. Got a puncture, tube was shredded so I considered the old stuff the tyre with grass trick. Couldn't find enough grass so used a new tube instead.
