Following up to the 'local newspaper most boring story' a cycling related gem from todays Hull Daily Mail.

Writer reminiscing about bicycles, how they were the transport of the masses before the car. His father had a bike he used regularly (wow!). They were used by paper boys/girls to deliver newspapers.
How most trips used to be made by bicycle, including the one he was making in the car at the time, to go collect his newspaper.

He wrote it while driving to the newsagent?

We found some facsimile newspaper in the recycling today, including several reporting the Titanic. There was a letter in one saying that since the suffragettes were so keen to get equality, and since it was 'women and children first' off the ship, the suffragettes ought to be organising collections to aid the victims. You could hear the Daily Wail frothing tone they use when they complain that cyclists all want cycle lanes and then don't use them.

Another gem, not a letter, was a report that one of the missing toffs on board had three pearl necklaces worth £50,000 each, and that the insurance underwriters were awaiting news of the necklaces as keeny as news of their owner....

It wouldn't surprise me at all.

The letters page rarely fails to amuse me. Surely the fact that someone has sat and written an opinion down means they have had time to reflect on it whilst doing so, but then still press the 'send' button.
Bit like P&L then.
