Leytonstone to Sydenham (London)

Woo i've just got myself a new job in Sydenham (London) and i have 3 ways I can get there in the morning (Bike, Train and Car). Obviously driving the car would mean that I will need to do the Blackwall Tunnel in rush hour. By train i'll have to go into London Bridge and back out too sydenham or use the DLR

My First choice is cycling, but i have very little knowledge of south london...let alone which bridge/boat/tunnel to use!

I currently ride 8miles too Holborn by the Canal Path and by cycling the opposite way I can get to the limehouse basin.

Does anyone have any suggestion from there?

That's very cycleable, the whole distance. I'd probably go via Isle of Dogs and Greenwich tunnel, I think.

If you're going via the Greenwich tunnel, I'd suggest taking the following route:

I live in Deptford and often have to drive / cycle to my girlfriend's flat in Penge, which is close to Sydenham. Route takes you along some fairly busy roads, but it's one of the most direct ways.

The other alternative is via the Woolwich ferry, but that means a bit of hanging around waiting for cars to be loaded.

Also have Woolwich foot tunnel and follow the A205 South Circular the otherside to Sydenham

Slower - isn't one of the bridges better?

I think you have to try it and tweak it as you go along.

For a less busy route from Greenwich. From Greenwich to Lewisham and from Lewisham you can take the Waterlink Way through the parks which takes you all the way to Sydenham

I do like the waterlink way - beautiful and a very enjoyable cycle ride, but it is a lot slower than the roads, plus you'll get a lot more p faery visits.

I like the sound of the Waterway Link as it seems nice and quiet. I've googled for it but not really found a great deal of information about where it actually starts and the route it take. Does the Waterway Link cover the whole route or are there sections require coming off and back on to the road? (Like the Regents Canal). I'm probably going to cycle it on Sunday so just really want to confirm everything before I head out

I've ordered the TFL maps as the interative one is useless!

Yup, very much on and off the roads. It's really slow dude, if you're commuting to work I would be using the roads.

Greenwich is fine until you get there and find that one of the lifts isn't working. Particularly if it is the one you need to go up in.

I think I tend to keep of canal routes now and don't use them as I don't think they are safe.

Depends on the time of day I guess.

Yeah, that does suck. Start counting yourself lucky though, I have ~30kg of bike and kit to carry there.
